The Oga Boys intensified their survival fight with a 1-0 win against Bayelsa United in Thursday’s NNL matchday 19 clash at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Substitute, Abiodun Kayode’s lone strike in the 32nd minute proved decisive to hand the Lagos outfit the whole three points at stake.
Somtochukwu said his side have got their act right with the relocation to the new ground at Teslim Balogun Stadium and
certain to claim more victories in the remaining matches on the season’s calendar.
“Where we are on the league log at the moment is quite unbefitting of a side like Ikorodu United.
“The NNL is quite a different ball game compared with the NPFL, it took us a whole lot of time to adjust and adapt to life in the lower league.
“The period of adjustment affected us negatively and contributed in no small measure to our poor performance in the first stanza of the league.
“The second stanza promises good fortune for us as we are determined to fight on till we ease out from the uncomfortable position.
“The first victory on our new ground at Teslim Balogun Stadium against Bayelsa United speaks good things for us as the league progresses.
“It’s a new dawn in our fight to stay alive and we hope to push further the rediscovered winning mentality.
“Of course, we remain positive that Ikorodu United will not be relegated at the end of the on-going season.
“We need all the prayers and supports of our teeming fans in this trying period for us to pull through.
“We have a date with another struggling Lagos side, AS Racine in NNL matchday 20 clash on Saturday in Lagos.
“Right now we believe the winning mentality is here to stay so we will be extending it to city foes, AS Racine.
“Victory in that game will further improve our fortune as well as boost our confidence to continue the survival fight,” said Somtochukwu to supersport.com.
Ikorodu United are 17th on the 18-team NNL southern conference log on 18 points 21 behind conference leaders, Heartland.
