Pelican Stars stunned, Rivers Angels held

Former Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) champions Pelican Stars suffered a 0-2 defeat to Osun Babes while title holders Rivers Angels were held to a 1-1 draw by Ibom Angels on Wednesday.

Pelican Stars with seven league titles despite fielding a strong startlist that included Tawakalitu Mustapha and Chisom Henry failed to come off the game at Osun Babes with a result in a Matchday 2 contest.

scoring for Osun Babes with three minutes from the break after good work by Kemi Abiodun to set her up.

Eighteen minutes into the second period, Osun Babes doubled their lead from the spot after the referee ruled that Helen Ugah handled the ball. Precious Edewor made no mistake from 11 metres by putting the ball past Pelican Stars goalkeeper Ihejka Chinedu on 63 minutes.

The 2-0 success now represents a first win of the season for Osun Babes in Group B of the women's league. Pelican Stars also have three points after their opening day 1-0 victory over Saadatu Amazon.
Nigerian champions Rivers Angels were seconds away from securing a 1-0 win at Ibom Angels after they took the lead through Alice Ogebe on 70 minutes.

Charity Reuben restored parity from the spot for Ibom Angels after the referee awarded a penalty after ruling that Emem Essien was felled in Rivers Angels' box.

But before then Super Falcons goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi had to pull off two saves in quick succession to stop Reuben and Blessing Okpe from scoring for Ibom Angels.
Bashirat Amoo was the hero for Confluence Queens as her solitary goal was enough to see off Nasarawa Amazons 1-0.

Former Super Falcons star Ifeanyi Chiejine and Akinyinka Taiwo scored a goal each as Abia Angels defeated Heartland Queens 2-0 in Umuahia.
FC Robo edged former champions Bayelsa Queens 1-0. Gift Monday scored the winner on 73 minutes.

The Bendel Derby between Edo Queens and Delta Queens produced no goals as both teams cancelled themselves out.
