Ikefe sure of Tornadoes after Remo win

Andrew Ikefe

Niger Tornadoes defender Andrew Ikefe believes his team can challenge for the NPFL title after getting back to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 win over visiting Remo Stars in Lokoja on Sunday.

A Peter Momoh strike in the 59th minute was all that separated the two sides and gave the three points to Bala Abubakar’s side.

The win meant Niger Tornadoes are in eighth place with 40 points after 27 matchdays, but the centre-back believes the team can build on the win against Remo Stars and mount a challenge
for the title.

“We have to keep fighting till the last game of the league as we want to lift the title,” Ikefe told supersport.com.

“It was a very tough game against a very good Remo team. They stretched us a lot and made us work hard for the points. It was a very difficult game I must admit.

“I’m glad we got the points at the end of the game. I’m quite impressed at the way we kept fighting against Remo to get the points which shows Tornadoes have the mentality to fight.

“We are going to keep fighting for points until the end of the season. I believe we can fight to get a spot on the continent. We can do it.”
