Parker retains WBO belt

Joseph Parker retained his WBO heavyweight belt with a one-sided, 12-round, unanimous points decision over former sparring partner Razvan Cojanu at the Sparks Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday.
The scores were 119-108 and 117-110 twice.

The 25-year-old Parker (23-0; 18), from New Zealand, who was making the first defence of his belt, dominated from the opening bell against the WBO No 14 ranked Cojanu (16-3; 9), of Romania, who came into the fight with only
two weeks’ notice after the No 1 contender Hughie Fury was injured.
Cojanu, 25, who is based in Burbank, California, had spent two camps with Parker; first before Parker’s fight with Alexander Dimitrenko in October last year, and for the cancelled fight with Fury.
It was reported that the undefeated British heavyweight contender Fury wasn’t impressed with Parker and is convinced that he can beat the New Zealander on a knockout, as he made hard work against a former sparring partner.
Umar Salamov (19-0; 14) of Russia won on a fourth-round knockout over Bosnia and Herzegovina-born Emil Markic (24-2; 19) to claim the vacant WBO International and IBF East/West Europe light-heavyweight titles.
In a middleweight contest Tim Tszyu (4-0; 3), son of Kostya Tszyu, stopped Ivana Siau (3-7-1, 3) in two rounds.
