NPFL Match Day Eight: Akwa United end Plateau United's unbeaten run

sesaon, after they were silenced by the Promise Keepers at the Godswill

Plateau United's seven-game unbeaten run in the Nigeria Professional Football League was brought to an end by Akwa United, who triumphed 2-1 at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday.
The Promise Keepers drew first blood when Moses Ebiye threaded a pass through for Christian Pyagbara. Faced with only John Gaadi to beat, the striker got his head down and rounded the goalkeeper to score in the sixth minute.
Abdu Maikaba's wards were stronger in the second half and eventually
doubled their advantage through Ibrahim Muazum Alhassan.
The visitors pulled a goal back trough substitute Chima Ndukwu, but Plateau United were unable to alter the course of the game as Akwa United held on for a much-needed win.
Sunshine Stars 2-2 ABS FC
A second-half strike from Ernest Governor salvaged a 2-2 draw for ABS FC to deny beleaguered Sunshine Stars three crucial NPFL points.
Governor headed the Saraki Boys in front with his first goal in the top tier division. However, the lively Ayo Saka put the Owena Waves on level terms from the penalty spot in the entertaining clash.
ABS were caught out when Anthony Omaka surged forward before finding Alaba Adeniyi who netted from close range, 2-1.
However, Governor finally found a way through when he surged forward and beat Henry Ayodele after good work on the part of the tricky Gata to secure a point for the hosts.
Nasarawa United 3-1 Abia Warriors
An impressive performance from Simon Zenke inspired Nasarawa United to a dominant 3-1 over Abia Warriors at the Lafia City Stadium.
The Solid Miners edged ahead when Abdulrahman Bashir turned home Zenke's delivery less than one minute into the first half.
Abia Warriors refused to let their heads hang and grabbed an equaliser thanks to an audacious chip from Sunday Adetunji.
Douglas Achiv scored a sublime free-kick to restore the home side's lead, before Williams Jide netted in the second half to seal the victory.
Niger Tornadoes 1-0 Enyimba FC
Niger Tornadoes picked up their second home win of the season, following a slim 1-0 victory over Enyimba FC.
It was a lively opening at the Confluence Stadium, with both teams looking to get forward as quickly as possible whenever they had the ball.
Niger Tornadoes did edge ahead in the 13th minute of the first period when Sadiq Suleiman profited from a defensive blunder to slot home.
Enyimba were made to sweat for a likely equaliser when Terna Suswam was sent off for his conducts in the 60th minute.
The Ikon Allah Boys held on to earn a priceless victory in Lokoja.
El-Kanemi Warriors 3-0 Gombe United
El-Kanemi Warriors' maintained their winning home record this season, after they recorded a 3-0 victory over Gombe United.
The opening period gave way to an end-to-end encounter played at the El-Kanemi Sports Complex.
Bello Kofarmata opened the scoring with a low driven effort, before Samuel Mathias powered home a free -kick to double his team's lead.
Mathias struck again later in the first half, from the penalty spot. He showed all his composure to calmly slide the ball home, leaving the Savannah Scorpions with a huge task on their hands.
Lobi Stars 0-0 Katsina United
In a game with series of highlight, Lobi Stars and Kastina United played out a 0-0 draw at the Aper Aku Stadium.
Lobi Stars goalkeeper, John Lawrence had the best chance of the game after the half hour when he missed from the penalty spot.
The home side's strikers weren't clinical when they were afforded opportunities to shoot.
The fans showed their discontent for the latest stalemate with jeers meeting the final whistle.
