Akwa United’s Maikaba keen on defeating Enyimba
The Promise Keepers' handler said his team is ready to defeat the People's Elephant at all cost as they gun for their second win
The coach saw his side secure their first Nigeria Professional Football League win of the season in their encounter against Remo Stars on Sunday.
And he is upbeat about going a step further with a win when they visit Gbenga Ogunbote’s charges in midweek.
“We will approach the game against Enyimba like any other game. We have respect for our opponent, a good side. No matter what, we have to give our all to
make sure we get the three points at stake,” Maikaba told Goal.
“We give all we can to see whether we can make that possible.”
Maikaba also expressed excitement at finally getting their first win in the 2016/17 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
“I’m actually happy because we were not winning and it was putting a lot of push on the players which is not too good for them or for the team in general because to play good football you have to be relaxed but they are always under pressure of our lack of a win,” he explained.
“And I believe with the win now, the moral will be high we will have all the confidence to play good football and win.”
The Godswill Akpabio Stadium outfit saw 14 players signed during the transfer window. And the 47-year-old is delighted that the hard work they put in is gradually paying off.
“The process is gradual,” he continued. ''We are working so hard to make sure that there is cohesion in the team.
''And I believe it is working for us because if you compare our first game with maybe the last game we played, you will see the difference in terms of team play, in terms of understanding during play and amongst players.
''At least there is improvement everybody can see. I have the belief with more games we will be better coordinated as a team and I have the believe it will give us better results,” he concluded.
