The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, on Saturday said he faced opposition from corrupt persons while trying to reposition public institutions in Abuja during his tenure as minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

El-Rufai, who spoke at the book launch of an autobiography in memory of his late foster father, Yahaya Hamza, which held in Kaduna, acknowledged Hamza for teaching him to work hard and serve with integrity and purpose.

The governor, in his speech titled, ‘Tribute to a father, protector and teacher,’ said with sound education and good moral upbringing bequeathed to him by the late educationist, he was able to surmount the obstacles before him.
“To this day, I consider all of his biological children my own dear siblings. He taught us the true meaning of love. I carried on what I had learnt to my years of serving the nation as the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“When I became the minister, I was determined to change the status quo and modus operandi of our public service institutions. Of course, my vision for revolutionising the way public service was run was met with stiff opposition from corrupt influences.”

El-Rufai explained that with all the virtues instilled in him throughout his childhood by his foster father, he grew to become a focused young man.
