‘We'll make NPFL statement v ABS’

Samuel Mathias

El Kanemi Warriors attacking midfielder Samuel Mathias has said his side want to make an assertive statement with the clash at top-flight newcomers Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC.

The Maiduguri Warriors are guests of the IIorin outfit in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 20 clash at the Kwara State Stadium in IIorin.

The first fixture clash between both sides in Maiduguri ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors, El Kanemi Warriors.

Mathias said his side want to kick start the second term brilliantly as they ended the first stanza against the same opponents, ABS FC.

“We know that revenge will be the watchword on
the lips of ABS FC in today’s (Sunday) match after they lost the first fixture clash in Maiduguri 0-1 to us.

“However, we are in IIorin for pure business to play to our best ability aimed at challenging favourably the three points at stake.

“We had good and quality recruitment during the midterm break and we want to use the clash at ABS to pass a message of intent to pick more away points this term than we did in the first stanza.

“That’s how we want to kick start the second term on a convincing winning note to make the statement that sticks in the minds of our challengers.

“ABS fought hard in the first fixture clash aimed mainly to break our home invincibility but failed just like others before them.

“Well, the score line may have been slim but in football half goal counts once it can secure three points.

“We got the three points which is key for us and right now we know ABS better and we will use the knowledge to further punish the side on home front.

“I can tell you outright that ABS will not escape defeat in the encounter,” said the Maiduguri Warriors’ talisman to supersport.com.

El Kanemi Warriors are third on the 20-team top-flight on 33 points two behind league leaders, Plateau United.
