‘Pep talk key to win v Pillars’

Abdul Usman Biffo

Abia Warriors head coach, Abdul Usman Biffo has said pep talk was the magic wand that gave his side victory against former Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars.

The Umuahia Warriors defeated the Pyramid City side 3-0 in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 15 clash at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

A brace from former 3SC marksman, Sunday Adetunji and Bashir Sherrif proved adequate to hand the Warriors the whole three points at stake in the clash.

Biffo said his side took
the Kano landlords by surprise to earn the massive victory to their biggest chagrin.
“I charged the players prior to match to think less of past record between both sides and to believe in themselves in getting the job done and it worked like magic.

“That singular pep talk turned the players into real lions to fight their auspicious opponents’ hands down.
“Kano Pillars came to Umuahia with bloated ego and overrated confidence of always having the edge against the Umuahia side.

“We took them by surprise and before they would know what hit them we have got the needed goals to win the match.

“The victory is for the entire family of Abia Warriors but as usual I have charged the players not to allow the massive win to go into their heads.
“The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is still a marathon and requires one to always be in control of himself.

“So we are keeping our heads under wrap to concentrate and focus on the next game at Mountain of Fire Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC.
“We intend to build on the hard fought win against Pillars in subsequent matches on the calendar,” said the former Giwa FC and Niger Torndaoes coach to supersport.com.

The win against the Kano landlords ups the Umuahia outfit total earnings to 22 from possible 45 in the 15-week old Nigerian top-flight.
