We’ll pick the best keeper for Eagles – Agu
Formal Super Eagles goalkeeper coach Alloy
Agu has said only the best will be selected to man the post when the team
tackle Algeria in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday in Uyo.
First-choice keeper Carl Ikeme is
out injured and there is a tight competition between the trio of Dele Alampasu,
a former Golden Eaglets
keeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi for who gets
coach Gernot Rohr’s nod for the game.
Eagles-train “The best on the day
will be in goal for Nigeria,” said Agu, adding, “All the goalkeepers have been
doing well at their clubs and they are not new to the national team set-up.”
“Nigerians should be rest assured on
all three goalkeepers because they are all tested hands and so there is nothing
to be worried about. “We will all continue to work hard and pray that on match
day, God will crown all our efforts.”
Agu said he expects the Eagles to
play a smart game to beat Algeria on Saturday. “Algeria are wounded lions and
they will come all out, and so we have to play a tactically disciplined game
and try to score an early goal so as to get the three points at stake,” he
offered.
