Kidnapped Akwa Ibom politician, wife regain freedom
By Dennis Udoma Uyo—
THE abducted businessman and former
Chairman of Ikot-Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Amaete
Ntuk, has regained his freedom.
Ntuk, who was kidnapped last
Saturday around Ekparakwa community in Oruk Anam Local Government, a gateway to
Ikot Abasi, was said
to have been freed on Tuesday morning.
Although it was not confirmed if the
N1.5 million ransom demanded by his abductors was paid, a family source told
Vanguard that he was released alongside his wife and were cooling off in an
undisclosed hospital at Ikot Abasi for medical treatment for machete cuts
sustained during the kidnap.
It was also gathered that friends
and business associates, who thronged his residence, were not allowed to see
him, as he was said to be recuperating from the shocking experience. Obong Ntuk
and wife were abducted on their way from the Ibom International Airport, while
coming home from an event in Abuja.
Obong Ntuk, it will be recalled, was
elected Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state in 1990,
under the defunct National Republican Convention, NRC.
