Lobi Stars captain and central defender Anthony Agbaji has said the bottom-placed side Remo Stars have toughened his team for the clash at former champions Enyimba.
The Pride of Benue are guests of the People’s Elephant in Wednesday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 30 clash at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Agbaji said his side came into Calabar at the right time to get use to the artificial playing turf of the UJ Esuene Stadium, aimed at challenging successfully for the whole three points at stake.
“We are happy to scale the stiff challenge
put up by the bottom-placed side, Remo Stars in the five-goal thriller win on Sunday in Makurdi.
“We won the clash but it was outright hard, however, the plus was that Remo Stars used the clash to prepare and toughen us to confront Enyimba.
“The gap between us and Enyimba on the league log is quite insignificant so a good performance will further help our placement as well as boost our confidence going forward in other matches on the calendar.
“We have been around in Calabar to try to get used to the artificial turf here unlike our own natural grass turf back home.
“We have tried our very best to manage the playing surface at least to give us a footage to challenge Enyimba for the whole three points at stake.
“If we succeeded to get a draw that will be fine but victory will be great as we will fight hard to avoid defeat in the clash,” said the Lobi Stars strongman to supersport.com.
The Makurdi landlords are fifth on the 20-team top-flight log on 45 points, six behind league leaders Plateau United.
