Kell Brook would like to face Miguel Cotto once he makes his return to the ring

Kell Brook admits it would be "fantastic" to take on Miguel Cotto when he returns to the ring.

The Sheffield star is expected to fight again before the end of the year following the severe eye injury he sustained in his Bramall Lane loss to Errol Spence Jr in May.

Cotto could well retire at the end of the year after winning world titles at four different weights, and Brook believes a fight between them would "excite and ignite the
fans" and himself.

"As you've seen in my last two fights, I want to fight the best," he exclusively told Sky Sports.

"I like the ones where not many people give me a chance, ones that excite and ignite the fans, so of course, Cotto, (Saul) Alvarez and even (Gennady) Golovkin again are all ones I'd like to jump in with.

"I want to be in a huge fight like the last two. It depends if he fancies the job. We know he's a warrior but it depends what's in his sights and how he wants to end his career.
"If I was him I'd want to fight someone like me because our styles would gel and it would be a fantastic fight for the fans. That is the way I'd go and that's the fight I'd want. But of course, I don't speak on behalf of Miguel Cotto.
"I am in that elite category, the highest in boxing. I want to be in a 12-round fight, in a sell-out arena, with me topping the bill."

Cotto is back down at super-welterweight to take on Yoshihiro Kamegai for the vacant WBO world title at the end of August, with Brook confirming he will be back at 154lbs when he is fit enough to fight.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has already mentioned the possibility of a mega-fight between them in December, with counterparts Top Rank hinting at a huge farewell for the Puerto Rican as well.
Brook has had a short stint in the Wincobank gym but is now on holiday "chilling out" with his family but is still some way off full fitness after the fractured left eye socket he suffered at the hands of Spence Jr.

"I have been back in the gym, but only for a little spell because I just wasn't ready," he said.
"To have those two, tough losses on the bounce, I am not in a rush to get back to the gym, to be honest.

"I have put the working in over the years and have had those two losses and eye injuries to I want to make sure I am healed properly and have got the eye of the tiger again.
"I need to be firing on all cylinders, not half-hearted. I want to make sure I am ready to go back."
