Top Five: Stand-out fixtures from Nations Cup qualifying

 

Nigeria vs. South Africa, Uyo: Nigeria have a fine record against the southern heavyweights, but the last time these two met in a competitive fixture—in November 2014—Bafana Bafana secured a 2-2 draw which contributed to the Super Eagles’ absence from the 2015 Nations Cup. 

Two and a half years later, however, and there’s optimism about Nigeria under Gernot Rohr, who’s cultivating a fine young squad rife with some of the continent’s top prospects. 

However, he’ll be wary of a South Africa side who are hoping for a renaissance of their own under Stuart Baxter.
