Italy finished in third place at the Fifa U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 after beating Uruguay 4-1 on penalties following a goalless draw.

Both teams struggled to take control of the game in the first half. Uruguay relied on a couple of counter-attacks and set-pieces from Rodrigo Amaral, who captained the team.

Uruguay took 24 attempts to Italy's six by the end of regulation time, but their finishing was not quite sharp enough and Italy goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari, who was standing in for the regular Andrea Zaccagno, was up to every challenge.

The match finished goalless after 90 minutes, so the third place spot on the podium had to be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

The Italians were superior from the spot and thanks to Plizzari, who saved penalties from Amaral and Juan Boselli, they secured a place on the podium in third place.
