Stanley Eguma

Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma has predicted that his wards will produce ‘more special moments’ this season.

Efosa Eguakun scored a spectacular goal in the final minute of added time as Rivers United beat high-flying FC Ifeanyiubah 2-1 in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in Port Harcourt on Sunday, and Eguma believes it is a pointer for what is to come.

Eguma added that the dramatic nature of Sunday’s win will boost confidence among his players, which he believes will rub off positively on the team’s performances
in all competitions for the rest of the season.
“When you win matches like these (against FCIU), you know something special will happen in the season if you have been in football for a long time.

“We have not done too well in the league so far but I believe (Sunday’s) match represents the turning point for us this season.

“I am sure this season will end in a special way for us and we will continue to fight with every game,” he told supersport.com.

The coach then took the time to discuss the impact of veteran winger, Eguakun who came off the bench to score the winner at the death.

“Efosa is an important player despite his age.

“He has not been playing because he was injured, but I have never doubted his quality.

“I knew he would have a big impact on the game and I am happy he scored such an important goal,” he said.
Rivers United is in 16th place on the NPFL log with 30 points from 23 matches.
