Ameobi extends stay with Notts County

Nigeria striker Shola Ameobi has extended his deal with English League One side Notts County and will appear in their colours for the 2017/18 season.

He joined Notts County in February and on a short-term basis but apparently did enough to have his stay extended.

The former Newcastle United striker played 17 times and scored four goals at Meadow Lane which prompted his former teammate, Kevin Nolan, now manager of Notts County, to hand him a new deal.

The 35-year-old said he is delighted to continue with the team as he has enjoyed his time with the club.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club so far and I'm excited for
what next season holds in store,” Ameobi told the club's official website.

"I've been taken aback by the support of the fans, who have welcomed me into their club with open arms, and I'm determined to help make the 2017/18 campaign an enjoyable and successful one for them."

Ameobi was part of the Nigeria squad for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil and has played the majority of his career in England with Newcastle United.
