Akwa United's Alhassan 'Muazzam' Ibrahim produced an individual brilliance in the space of 16 minutes to help his club to a 4-2 win over 3SC at the Nest of Champions in one of Sunday's Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches.
Alhassan scored on 28, 36 and 44 minutes of the match as Akwa United raced into a four-goal lead at the break. Ubong Friday had opened scoring after just 11 minutes for the Promise
Keepers against a 3SC team in sixes and sevens.
Interestingly Alhassan's goals came at interval of eight minutes each.
However the game proved to be of two halves as 3SC put up a better performance in the second 45 minutes. Moses James and Taiwo Shittu scored for 3SC to leave the scoreline respectable at 4-2.
Plateau United scraped to a 1-0 win over Wikki Tourists at the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos after Reuben Bala converted from the spot just before the hour. Bala's goal proved sufficient to take Plateau United back to top spot after MFM FC faltered at Nasarawa United.
Nasarawa United hit MFM four-nil with goals from Adamu Hassan, Yinka Onaolapo, Anthonin Oussou and Abdulrahman Bashir. MFM drop to third place with 30 points, two less than Plateau United.
El-Kanemi moved into second place on the back of their 1-0 win over Kano Pillars in Maiduguri. Samuel Mathias scored on 53 minutes to ensure that the Borno club extended their winning run at home to 22 games on the spin.
Mfon Udoh was the hero for Enyimba as he inspired them to a 2-1 success over southeast rivals and NPFL champions Enugu Rangers. Udoh scored one and assisted Stephen Chukwude for the other after Daniel Etor's free kick had put Rangers in front till the break. Rangers remain bottom of the pile while Enyimba are now sixth with 25 points after 17 matches.
Gombe United and Remo Stars eased to 1-0 wins over Rivers United and Katsina United respectively. Idris Bakare scored for Gombe United and then two minutes to time got sent off for a second bookable offence.
Eric Dufegha came off the bench to score a late winner for Remo Stars to ease their worries at the wrong end of the league standings.
Sunday Adetunji and Ibrahim Babawo scored two goals each for Abia Warriors and Niger Tornadoes respectively. Abia Warriors left it late to defeat ABS 2-0 while Tornadoes edged Lobi Stars 2-1 with Luther Iyorhe's goal proving to be mere consolation for the away team.
It was dramatic in Nnewi as FC Ifeanyiubah winger Prince Aggreh fluffed a spot kick on 56 minutes against Sunshine Stars. Eight minutes later, Sunshine Stars got their noses in front through Joseph Abbey.
Another spot kick awarded to FC Ifeanyiubah was dispatched by Godwin Obaje before Seka Pascal's individual brilliance sealed a late winner for the hosts to leave Sunshine Stars' contingent heartbroken.
