Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon has enthused that the best side will win the 2016 Winners Cup title.
The Garden City side will square up against the Lafia outfit in Saturday’s annual football showpiece at the Fifa Goal Project ground of the Abuja National Stadium.
The Winners Cup is the women’s equivalent of the men’s NPFL Super Four which officially marks the end of a football season.
Okon said Cup holders are keenly looking forward to capture the Cup title which the Port Harcourt-based side have won six times.
“My sincerest wish is for the best side to win the women’s Winners Cup on Saturday.
“However, we are looking forward to retaining the Cup title which
we have won previously sixth time.
“We have been trying to knock the players back to shape after the yuletide break aimed at bringing to a successful end the 2016 season as well as opening a bright chapter for 2017.
“The Cup clash will not be easy as Nasarawa Amazons have quality that can ruffle feathers if given the opportunity but they will not get the luxury from us.
“Nasarawa Amazons have never beaten us in the past we hope to keep the record intact.
“Although we have challenges raising the required players to face Nasarawa Amazons as we were told we cannot field the new players in our midst.
“I dropped 13 players trying to build new team to face squarely the challenges of 2017.
“Rules of the game say you cannot feature new players but old ones so it’s tough trying to raise a winning team among the old players.
“We are believing in history that Nasarawa Amazons have not beaten us in the past and will not beat us this time around despite the difficult challenges,” said the former Super Falcons head coach to supersport.com.
Rivers Angels are being expected in Abuja on Thursday to overcome the stress of the long journey ahead of the clash on Saturday.
