The Librarian, University of Ibadan, Dr.
Helen Komolafe-Opadeji, has promised to turn the institution’s library
around for the better, saying her innovativeness will propel the library
to greater heights.
Komolafe-Opadeji, who is the sixth
substantive Librarian in the institution, pledged to make information
literacy skill one of her priorities.
She said, “We are in the Information
Age. One of my priorities will be that the university community benefits
from the electronic information
resources, which we have subscribed to,
by making the knowledge available and facilitating accessibility.”
The new Librarian, who disclosed that
UI had expended money towards accessibility and utilisation of
electronic information resources, also said that she would ensure
in-house training for the staff of the library who will impact the
entire university community with the new skill.
Komolafe-Opadeji added that she would
resuscitate the bindery section of the library, which she noted, could
generate revenue for the university.
“The bindery section of the library
could rake in millions of Naira in one academic session. For instance ,
if all post graduate students are directed to bind their theses and
dissertations in our bindery section at the rate of N500 per copy in
five places per a student, you can imagine how much we will make for the
university,” she said.
