Rangers ready for Champions League – Chukwu
By Jacob Ajom
THE Technical Director of Rangers
International Football Club of Enugu, Christian Chukwu has rebuffed suggestions
that the Nigerian champions were unlucky to have been paired with Algerian
club, JS Saoura in the 2017 CAF Champions League draw held in Cairo Wednesday.
In a telephone chat with Sports Vanguard Thursday, Chukwu said there are no
weak teams in any championship.
“If you want to be a champion, you
must beat the best. You are not to fear your opponents but show them respect,”
the legendary former Rangers player said, adding
that “those who think the
Algerians are comfortable facing Rangers should do a rethink.” Rangers Said he,
“As people are panicking here over the draw, that is how the Algerians too are
panicking because of Rangers.
It is a 50-50 game, but I can assure
you that Rangers are ready for them” Chukwu reasoned that any team that
qualifies for a competition is a potential champion that is why no team should
be underrated, not the least Rangers. He said that the team was in good shape
and the morale in camp is high following the cash and land rewards given the
players by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
“The boys are in high spirit and the
governor has motivated them to the highest level as even those who were
thinking of leaving are thinking twice. They have promised the governor the
Champions League trophy,”Chukwu said.
