Our target is to create 10,000 jobs by 2020 – FCT Minister

The Minister of Federal Capital
Territory(FCT), Mallam Muhammed Musa Bello has said that his administration
plans to create 10,000 jobs by 2020 through training and empowerment of women
and youths in the territory.
He said this during the closing
ceremony of the entrepreneurship and skills development programme organized by
Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) where over hundred women and
youths graduated having undergone training in vocational
skills such as Animal
Husbandry, Poultry, Paint making etc, in addition to entrepreneurial skills
such as Business Management, Financial Management and other critical areas.
The Minister who was represented by
Mr Arabi Muhammad Tukur Managing Director Abuja Enterprise Agency said in order
to achieve this, all stakeholders must join hands with government to make it
succeed.
“As the training comes to an end, we
hope to see participants create new enterprises, jobs and generate wealth”.
“To achieve this, we require all the
stakeholders here to join hands in supporting the participant who successfully
completed this program.
We call on relevant stakeholders
particularly those domiciled in the FCT Administration to support these young
men and women by facilitating access to Workspace, Finance and Mentorship
program”.
“Let me reiterate the commitment of
the FCT Administration in continuing to support initiatives like this that
would provide development to residents of the FCT.
As an Administration, we will not
rest on our oars in all effort to improve the living standards of the residents
of the FCT by creating jobs”.
“Our target is to create 10,000 jobs
by 2020. In creating these jobs, we will support our people to generate wealth;
thereby reducing the high rate of unemployment and minimizing the level of
poverty in the territory.
This stand is also in line with one
of the cardinal policies of the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,
the President and commander- in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria that is Job creation and Poverty reduction”. “Let me
strongly implore you our dear participants to be committed to whatever
endeavour you decide to venture into.
The potentials for success lies in
you; therefore, be the business leaders of tomorrow by imbibing the three
critical tips to becoming successful Entrepreneurs; “be innovative, be creative
and lead with integrity”. Follow these 3 tips and you would accelerate your
rise in the business world”. In the same vein the chairman board of trustee of
SABMF Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu at the programme highlighted the focal areas of
the foundation established in 2009 by friends, relations, associates and
well-wishers of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the late premier of the defunct Northern
Region and Sardauna of Sokoto in collaboration with governments of the 19
northern states of Nigeria as Leadership and Good Governance, Healt
Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Education, Peace and Security.
“The special intervention programme
we are witnessing today was designed to develop the capacities of women and
youth on entrepreneurship and production skills in various trades to creates
jobs and promote self-reliance by encouraging the starting of productive and
sustainable micro, as well as well enterprises with capacity for expansion”.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke
to vanguard expressed their gratitude to the foundation for creating such an
opportunity for them. Bashir Yahaya Maikas said “I been jobless since i
graduated from the university in 2009, but having been trained to make shoes
here i am ready to be self employed and I will apply the things they have
thought me to help mange by business”.
