Dickson assures workers of full November salary

RESPITE has come the way of Civil servants in Bayelsa State, as government ordered the finance ministry to ensure they are paid full salaries in November, a situation that would alter ten months of receiving half salaries from the state government.

Though the government explained that the half salaries as a result of the lean resources to the state especially from the Federation Account.
State governor, Hon Seriake Dickson, in keeping promise made to the organised labour, directed the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Maxwell Ebibai, to ensure that every worker in the state gets 100 per cent of their salary from November to boost their morale and productivity.
The governor lauded the workers for their commitment to duty, the loyalty they have showed to his administration and the invaluable support, assuring that his promise for a better Bayelsa remains sacrosanct.
Disclosing the development at a press conference in Yenagoa after a meeting between some officials of the state government and the leadership of the joint labour council, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon Jonathan Obuebite, said it is in fulfilment of the governor’s promise, and also a prove that the governor is truly a man of his words.

He recalled that Dickson had few months back promised to restore the full salary payment to workers and noted that he had done this even in the face of the sad economic fortunes of the state.

Obuebite added that “this is a governor who has earned the sobriquet ‘talk na do’ because what he says is what he does. A lot of people didn’t believe him when he made the promise, but ‎today he has fulfilled that even when our allocation has not so improved.

“His Excellency has done his part and it’s now left for our dedicated workers to see his action as a wakeup call and work to better the state through their various MDAs. I thank him and I know that he did it out of his genuine concern for their welfare.”

Also speaking, the chairman of the state council of the NLC, Comrade Ndiomu John, appreciated the governor for keeping to his promise of full payment when things get better.

Ndiomu expressed optimism that the state will boom as the economy of the state will continue to rise, even as he appreciated the union and the entire civil servants in the state for showing understanding and support when they were collecting half salaries.

On his part, the state’s TUC Chairman, comrade Tari Dounana, commended the government for keeping to their promise and for consolidating the relationship between the employees and the employer.
