Amosun proposes N221bn 2017 budget-Punch

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Tuesday presented a 2017 budget proposal of N221.129bn to the state House of Assembly for approval.

In the budget proposal christened ‘Budget of Repositioning’ the state government said it hoped to generate 51.7 per cent of the amount, N114.34bn, through Internally Generated Revenue.


The governor who noted that the allocation from the Federal Government had continued to dwindle, said the state must take its destiny in its own hands.
Given the breakdown of the budget proposal, Amosun said the amount budgeted for 2017 was an increase of 10.45 per cent when compared to 2016 budget of N200.27bn.

Education got the lion share of N47bn, closely followed by rural/infrastructural development/employment generation which got N44.2bn and affordable housing and urban renewal got N28.57bn.

Other sectorial breakdown revealed that Health got N15.1bn, agricultural production/ industrialisation got the the sum of N11.6bn, while other sectors got the remaining N74.58bn.

Governor Amosun further said N62.73bn was earmarked for salaries and allowances,  N11.2bn for pension and gratuities, while overhead would gulp N28.89bn.

He said capital expenditure would take N118.3bn which represents 53.5 per cent of the total budget, while N102.8bn would go for recurrent expenditure which represents 46.5 per cent of the total budget.
