South Africa’s Tommy Oosthuizen suffered his first defeat as a
professional when Igor Mikhalkin from Russia beat him by wide margins
over 12 rounds at the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany on Friday
night, in a clash for the vacant IBO light-heavyweight belt.
Judge Iko Bebic scored it 118-109 while judges Matteo Montella and Giulio Piras both had it 118-110.
The referee was Uwe Lorch.

In a battle of southpaws Oosthuizen, 29, who had height and reach advantages, was never allowed to get into the fight as the
skilful Mikhalkin, 31, who fights out of Hamburg, Germany was able to work on the inside and keep the South African off balance throughout the fight.
Mikhalkin was in control from the opening round as Oosthuizen only possibly shaded two rounds.
Oosthuizen who has previously held the IBO super-middleweight and light-heavyweight belts was having only his third fight in nearly two years and lacked his well-known speed and movement around the ring against the Russian who fought from behind a tight defence.
Mikhalkin improved his record to 20-1; 9 and Oosthuizen’s record dropped to 27-1-1; 16.
The champions from the four major organisations are Adonis Stevenson (Haiti/Canada), WBC and Andre Ward (USA), WBA, WBO and IBF.
