Flanagan retains WBO belt

Terry Flanagan retained his WBO lightweight belt with a twelve-round, unanimous points decision over mandatory challenger Petr Petrov on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

The scores were 120-108, 118-110 and 116-112.
The stylish Flanagan outboxed the challenger through most of the rounds.

Petrov did well in the fifth round, but Flanagan came back from round six to the final round to control the action.

Flanagan improved his record to 33-0; 13 and Petrov’s record dropped to 38-5-2; 19.

On the same card Liam Smith, 25-1-1; 14, won on a Pacquiao-Horn fight gets Aus green light

tenth-round technical knockout against previously
unbeaten British champion Liam Williams, 16-1-1; 11, in a bout for the WBO interim junior middleweight title.

Smith was cut over the right eye from a punch in the third round. However, in the ninth round a clash of heads left Williams with a bad cut over his eye and he did not come out for the tenth round.
Smith could not claim the title as he came in overweight.
