Nigerians Osunwa and Ojo out to trip Rivers

Dayo Ojo

Two members of the Al-Merreikh squad that will face Rivers United in Sunday’s Caf Champions League contest in Port Harcourt, Kelechi Osunwa and Dayo Ojo have both declared that they are up for the challenge.

Osunwa and Ojo both distinguished themselves in the Nigeria Professional Football League with (the now defunct) Dolphins and Sunshine Stars before teaming up with the Red Devils.

Important contributions are expected from the duo, who took the time to discuss their sentiments on the upcoming big game with supersport.com.

“I have great memories of Port Harcourt and I am glad to be back to play against my former
club, even though they have now merged (with Sharks to form Rivers United)
“It will be a great game on Sunday and we will see how it goes in the end.

“I didn’t really give tips (about Rivers United) to my coach (Diego Garzito) because most of the players are new players,” Osunwa said.

Ojo on his part insisted that he did not have issues facing a club from the country of his birth on Sunday.
He further revealed that the 16-time Sudanese champions will be adopting a business-like approach at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.

“We are not here for fun. We are here to play football.
“There are no easy games in football anymore and we hope we can get a positive result on Sunday,” he said.
Kunle Odunlami is the third member of the Nigerian Al-Merreikh ‘clan’, and he trained with the rest of the squad at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Saturday evening.

Sunday’s game kicks off at 4pm.
