Gonzalez loses unbeaten record

WBC junior-bantamweight champion, Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez from Nicaragua, whom many considered the best fighter pound-for-pound in the world, lost his unbeaten record when Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai beat him on a majority 12-round points decision at the Madison Square Garden in New York on
Saturday night.
The scores were 114-112 twice and 113-113.
Gonzalez (46-1; 38) was knocked down in round one and stunned on occasions by Rungvisai (aka Wisakil Wangek). He also suffered a bad cut over the right eye.
However, even with blood pouring down his face, Gonzalez continued to press forward brawling and boxing with Rungvisai (42-4-1; 38). He had the challenger in trouble in the last round.
The decision was loudly booed by the crowd.
On the same card, former WBC junior bantamweight champion Carlos Cuadras (36-1-1; 27) scored a unanimous ten-round points decision over David Carmona (20-4-5; 8).
The scores were 97-93 twice and 96-94.
Both fighters suffered cuts but it was Cuadras who appeared in control through most of the fight.
In a lightweight bout Ryan Martin stopped Bryant Cruz in the eighth round. Time 0:45
Middleweight Andy Lee outpointed KeAndrae Leatherwood over eight rounds.
