Akwa United – Sunshine Stars Match Preview: Owena Whales hoping for a positive result
The Akure based team did not have a good outing in
their last away game in Maiduguri and will be hoping to get something on
their next away trip
The Promise Keepers are coming into this game on the back of a 1-0 home win over high flying El-Kanemi Warriors courtesy of Alhassan Ibrahim’s 83rd minute strike. The win propelled them up to eighth spot on the NPFL log with 16 points, six points behind leaders Plateau United.
Abdullahi Bifo’s men are yet to lose at home this season and will hope to give their fans something to cheer about.
The Owena Whales have been in the headlines for the wrong reasons this season as players and other club officials are being owed backlog of salaries. Despite the setback, the Akure team have been putting in spirited performances. After losing at home to Mountain of Fire FC, Kayode Olujohungbe’s men went on a four game unbeaten run that included away draws at Abia Warriors and Nasarawa United. It ended with a 3-1 defeat at El Kanemi Warriors but they bounced back with a 1-0 home win to Wikki Tourists last time out.
Sunshine Stars who are yet to win away from home this season, are in 11th position, one point behind their opponents. Victory in Uyo would be a massive morale booster.
The new government of Rotimi Akeredolu has promised to support the Owena Whales and hopefully this will be another determined display from them.
Focus will be on Akwa United’s Alhassan Ibrahim who has five goals to his name this season. Also with the likes of Ifeanyi Ifeanyi pulling the strings for the Promise Keepers in the middle of the park, Sunshine need to be at their very best if they want to take something back to Akure.
