Roy Jones Jr wins in eight

Former multiple world champion Roy Jones Jr stopped Bobby Gunn in the eighth round to win the vacant World Boxing Foundation cruiserweight belt at the Chase Centre in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, on Friday night.

The 48-year-old Jones, who won his first world title in May 1993 when he beat Bernard Hopkins for the vacant IBF middleweight belt, dominated against the rugged Gunn through the first six rounds before stunning Gunn with a left hook in the seventh
round that nearly sent him down to the canvas.

Jones could have finished the fight off but backed up as he allowed the groggy Gunn to survive the round.

However, at the bell for the eighth round Gunn’s corner pulled him out and asked referee Bill Clancy to stop the fight at seven seconds into the round.

Jones improved his record to 65-9; 47 and Gunn, 43, saw his record drop to 21-7-1; 18.
On the undercard, junior middleweight Kanat Islam (23-0; 19) won on a first-round knockout against Brazilian Robson Assis (16-3; 9). The time was 2:12.
