By Samuel Oyadongha YENAGOA—
THE struggle for supremacy between
suspected rival cult groups have claimed two lives in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State
capital.
It was gathered that the incident
occurred, Wednesday, at 9.30p.m., at the Ekeki and Kpansia suburbs of Yenagoa.
According to eyewitnesses, four
arm-wielding youths
accosted a 32-year-old man at the Ekeki park junction and
shot him dead.
The victim, identified as Otoko,
popularly known as Oracle, an indigene of Delta State, is believed to be a
member of a rival cult.
Also at the Kpansia area, some
suspected cultists, were reported to have stormed a suya spot, lured their
victim with a girl and shot him at close range.
The victim was said to have died
while being rushed to the hospital. There had been increasing cases of burglary
and stealing, cult-related killings and armed robbery in the state capital in
recent times. Spokesman of the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, could not
be reached for comment, but a senior security officer, attached to the
anti-vice section of the command said police have achieved a lot in the area of
arrests of cultists and criminals in the state.
He, however, added: “The setbacks
are caused by poor logistics, shortage of patrol vehicles and refusal of the
public to assist the police with vital information.”
