Seven
suspected criminals, who took part in kidnappings, armed robberies and
pipeline vandalism in Ikorodu, Arepo and Ibafo areas of Lagos and Ogun
states, have been arrested by the police.
It was gathered
that the suspects, who fled their camps when security operatives
launched offensives against their activities, were apprehended in Edo
State, where they had gone to regroup.
Sources disclosed that the
suspects, who were identified as Alawei Isaac, Ganpaei Amos Yieden,
Abeniko Alfred, Luke Foroijoh a.k.a. Oluku, Bebetebe Akowe, Daniel
Ezekiel and Pawpaw Worimegbe, were rounded up by operatives of the
Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT,
following a directive of the IG, Ibrahim Idris, who ordered that fleeing
militants from Lagos and Ogun states should be trailed and arrested.
It
was further gathered that the IRT operatives, led by Abba Kyari, got
intelligence report indicating that the regrouping militants were
perfecting plans to rob three commercial banks and also kidnap a woman
from a wealthy family in Edo State.
A source, who spoke with
Vanguard on condition of anonymity, said that the militants had made
statements and that they were mainly from Arogbo in Ondo State, but fled
to Edo because they learned that security operatives had flooded
Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, waiting for them.
